10 Ways I Created 52 Magic Action Videos

Today I shared the 52nd Magic Action Monday video I’ve created within the last year.

I did not set out to create a year’s worth of video content last fall and yet ~ here we are.

So how did this happen?

Here are 10 ways I was able to produce 52 videos ~ a task that could’ve felt daunting and overwhelming ~ in a way that felt doable, joyful and meaningful.

Envision your own creative endeavors and imagine applying these techniques to them as you read this list.

#1 ~ Give Yourself Permission.

I gave myself permission to make the first video.

This is a step that seems like a no-brainer, but if you try to skip it, it’s often where you end up putting your creative endeavor on perpetual hold.  This method ties nicely to the next tool.

#2 ~ Be Good With “Good Enough”

Give yourself permission for your creative work to be Good Enough rather than “perfect.” (Air quotes ~ cuz there’s no such thing as perfect!)

I own a fancy lighting kit with huge white reflection thingies (I don’t even know what they’re called!) that are supposed to help you create a professional lighting look.

But guess what...

I haven’t used them for a single one of my 52 Magic Action Monday videos!

I may decide to learn to use them someday, but for now the simple ring light I use with my phone is plenty good enough.

If I'd waited until I’d learned how to set up and use the lightning kit I might still be waiting to film my first video rather than finishing my 52nd one.

#3 ~ Serve Somebody

Hold the thought, “Someone out there needs this today!”

This helped me to show up to share inspiration, tips and techniques to help you move your creative dreams out of your head and into the world week after week.

I made these videos to help you!

Intentionally think about how your creativity will impact others. This makes for some fabulous motivation and helps you to show up as your best, most authentic self.

#4 ~ Calendar and Commit

Commit to a certain number of times or a certain amount of time you’ll spend moving your creative endeavors forward each week.  If you can actually schedule time on your calendar ~ all the better.

This is a super effective way to prioritize your creative projects.

When you don’t commit to your creative dreams ~ they don’t happen. It’s as simple as that.

Once I came up with the concept for Magic Action Monday videos it made sense to schedule them in my calendar each Monday.

I committed to creating and sharing a new video each week and I’ve only missed doing so 2 or 3 times in the entire last year because of this.

#5 ~ Do It Your Way

Find what works for you and start there.

Don’t wait until you find the “right” way or the “best” way to begin, because ~ spoiler alert ~ there is no “right” way or “best” way to turn your creative vision into reality.

Whatever way you’ll actually show up and do the damn thing rather than dreaming, journaling and talking about it incessantly ~ is the right way and the best way for YOU! And that’s all that matters.

We live in the age of information where you can find no less than a thousand people to tell you their “Best” way to do whatever it is.

Many people say if you don’t batch your content ~ (shoot a months’ worth in a day for example) you’re doing it wrong.

If that’s true ~ that means I’ve been doing it “wrong” for over a year and have 52 videos in my Magic Action Monday series to show for it!

I write, record and share my videos every Monday.

There are times I think it might be easier or organized to batch a bunch but so far that hasn’t happened. And I’m okay with that for now.

#6 ~ Give For The Joy Of Giving

Creating content should always be done in the spirit of giving without any expectations of receiving.

It’s a little like unconditional love. You give without expecting anything in return.

You put your best work out into the world with love and believe that eventually it will end up in front of exactly who it should.

#7 ~ Follow Your Curiosity

Allow “I wonder what would happen if…” to be the beginning to questions you ask yourself often.

Many a topic for my videos have come from the answer to “what if” questions.

#8 ~ Use Constraints

Give yourself a short amount of time or some other constraint to help you lower the pressure and begin.

In the beginning I would shoot multiple takes, but now I pretty much always go with my first and only take of my videos unless I have a technical glitch of some kind.

This is super helpful if you tend to be a perfectionist and could easily spend three hours doing something that could really take as little as 15 minutes.

#9 ~ Give Yourself Grace

If you miss a week or some how drop the ball on your creative plan, show yourself some compassion and begin again as soon as you can.

When I missed a week I didn’t let that mean I had screwed up the whole thing and should just quit.

I didn’t beat myself up.

I showed myself grace and picked back up where I left off the next week.

Which brings me to #10.

#10 ~ Have Fun

Whatever your creative endeavor ~ the more ways you can find to have fun and add joy to the process, the more likely you are to keep showing up and taking inspired action on a consistent basis.

Magic Action Planning’s a technique I created and have used myself and shared with my clients for a couple of years now.
Truthfully, I just loved the way “Magic Action Monday'' rolled off my tongue and it inspired the idea to share a tip that would help people take inspired action on their creative dreams.

Creating a short video each week to help people do this sounded like something fun to try and I’m so glad I did!

So that’s it ~ 10 ways I was able to create 52 entertaining and informative videos over the course of a year in a way that has felt doable, meaningful and joyful!

Shared with love, light and the true belief that when you bring your creative dreams to life, you’ll be a happier, healthier, more fulfilled human and the world will be a better place!
