Welcome To My Pillow Fort For Grownups!

Do you remember making pillow forts as a child? During a recent creative day trip to Corsicana I had the good fortune to experience a monologue written and performed by Brigham Mosley, an artist in residence at 100W ~ an international residency for artists and writers.Over the span of his 45-minute piece entitled Critical Darling Mosley shared his rapid-fire ponderings and perspectives on a plethora of topics from current hot-button political issues to the recycling of American icons to how crazy and scary the world can be these days and finally his beautiful wish for us all to somehow find a way to feel as safe as we once did as kids in the comfort of our pillow forts. That childhood memory of playing while safely ensconced within the cozy walls of a pillow fort really resonated with me.Most often my forts were built in the living room with my little brother. Saturday morning cartoons played on the TV, wonderful smells wafted in from the kitchen where mom made something delicious to eat and the sound of dad mowing the lawn outside completed the scene. In that place I felt safe, cared for and cozy as I used my imagination and creative play to transform the cushions of our couch into my own magical place to relax and have fun.It dawned on me during Mosley’s wonderful piece that that’s the same atmosphere I endeavor to create for you when you join me for a Creative Oasis Retreat! When you step into my eclectic East Dallas cottage I invite you to leave behind your worries and never-ending to-do lists and let yourself relax, be taken care of and enjoy an inspiring day of creative play and camaraderie a small group of kindred spirits. The reactions of the women who’ve joined me so far this year make me think I’m on the right track. Here’s what a few of them have to say:Jill’s retreat was a joyful experience from start to finish. She’s transformed her home into a welcoming nest for creativity to flourish. I appreciated her attention to detail in how the food was so lovingly prepared and presented. I enjoyed starting the day with movement. The chance to play with her wide variety of art supplies got the doors opening wide for me and my creativity. The music! The conversation! The kettle waiting for me to pour a cup of tea right when I walked in!  I was sad to see the day end and hope I can make space to come again. Thanks again for the gift of this retreat.  So grateful!” ~ Beth Fields ~ Beth Fields Fine ArtA Creative Oasis Retreat is like a spa day for your mind. Jill creates a colorful space of curiosity and wonder in which to relax and explore. The food was delicious, the friendship inspiring. The day flew by in a flash. I was having so much fun I didn’t want to leave!~ Jane Baldwin ~ writer, yoga/breathwork instructorI feel deeply refreshed, with a renewed sense of purpose, after spending time in retreat at Jill's delightful home.
